I was all for the Jacob character at the beginning of New Moon and then he turned into a different character. One I couldn't respect anymore. He was just so...needy and aggressive. Im all for going after something you want but if that something doesn't want you back you should leave it alone. Especially if you're only hurting it even more. Who does that to somebody they "love"?
That wasn't all that drove me to really dislike the character though. It was more of a personality/demeanor thing for me. His actions spoke louder than anything and he was a grade A douche bag. He forced himself on Bella on more than one occasion and continually tried to push past her boundaries. He was also very contradicting. He would call Edward out on leaving Bella when he did the same thing. His reason? To protect her maybe? Well that was Edward's reason so what's the difference? He constantly forced ultimatum's on her and then pouted when he wouldn't get his way.
Bella, in my opinion, was far too lenient on him. If her reasoning was because he was her friend she should have maybe learned the definition of a friend. I wouldn't categorize Jacob as a friend by the end of the series. Everything he did in Breaking Dawn that could have been considered friendly was mostly done with Renesmee in mind, not Bella.
That's another thing. He was such an ass to Bella when it came to Renesmee. She wasn't his, she was Bella and Edward's. He had no right to try to keep her away from Bella. Then to give her a nickname, especially one as stupid as Nessie, who the fuck did he think he was?! That's not his kid!
In general I just say fuck Jacob! He's an annoying, self-righteous, pious, rude, arrogant, cocky, dumbfuck pompous ass. I am so beyond glad that Bella had enough sense to choose Edward in the end, even if she was a complete idiot for being torn between the two in the first place. And so I will end my rant saying Jacob nearly made me quit reading the entire series. Stephenie maybe went a little overboard with how shitty of a character she created.
AMEN!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have someone else around that isn't all "OMG, Jacob is so awesome! He's the best friend a girl could have!" -_-
Really? No, I mean it. REALLY!?! How the hell is he her friend when everytime she tells him "no", he gets all pissy and is like "FINE! I'm not gonna be your friend anymore! GRRRR, i'm a big bad wolf!"
Jacob is the most whiny, selfish, arrogant little bastard i've ever had the mispleasure of reading about. Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't Bella tell him from the BEGINNING she wasn't interested? Yet he still felt the need to push her.
Honestly. And sure, I get the fact that he was trying to "protect" her when it came to Edward turning her. But it was hypocritical. How would Bella be any safer with Jacob? Emily had that huge scar on her face from a werewolf. And Jacob wasn't exactly easy tempered. Hypocritical dog.
I'm happy Bella chose Edward, but really, she never really wavered from her choice. She just didn't wanna hear Jacob cry about it.
That's true. As much as Bella felt bad, and I guess that was the most of it her just not wanting to hurt Jacob because unlike him she was actually a caring person, she always wanted Edward.
ReplyDeleteShe did make i obvious. As much as I don't believe in love at first sight I also don't believe in "learning" to love someone. You do or you don't. She didn't love him like that and for some reason that just meant that he needed to push her more in his mind. Sounds like an awesome guy to me *insert eye roll now*
I'm not saying I love Jacob...But Bella was a spineless ho-bag.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I'm not justifying any of Jacob's actions, because I think there was a lot of overboard shite going on, but Bella brought on herself.
She basically was using Jacob to fill the hole Edward left. Even if she was "clear" verbally, she still led him on by being a jellyfish. I know this from experience. If you say you want to maintain a friendship but are weak because you're so worried about hurting they're feelings, then they can't possibly take what you say at face value.
Again...not rooting for Jacob or anything; on the contrary, I think both Jacob and Edward were total douche packers numerous times throughout the series. I'm just pointing out that maybe Bella should have grown a pair from the get go and not been a skeeze.
It's true Bella made things worse but she at least tried to lay down the law and he took advantage of her vulnerability. Example: Movie theater he plays the Edward hurt you card. He brings up something painful for her and then tries to twist it around to make himself look good. Thank god for Mike Newton haha
ReplyDeleteAgain, I don't think she actually did a good enough job of laying down the law...She didn't law down the so much as she suggested guidelines.
ReplyDeleteHe was wrong to bring it up, but she should never have let it get to the point where he thought he had a chance.
Sure, Bella should have kicked him in the nuts a few times to get her point across, but Jacob was a big boy. He knew she didn't feel the same from the beginning. And instead of taking it like a man, and just being her friend, he always pushed her a little farther.
ReplyDeleteTo the point that he threatened suicide?! That's just effing ridiculous!
How many times did Bella have to say "Jacob, I can't give you more than this" for it to sink in? Jacob didn't WANT it to sink in.
There is no such thing as a "big boy" lol
ReplyDeleteIf little boys don't get their candy, they pout and act irrational
